In 1945, the American engineer and inventor Percy Spencer was renowned for his radar systems. During his research, he noticed that the bar of chocolate he was carrying in his trouser pocket had begun to melt. Spencer looked into this curiosity more closely and discovered that the microwave radiation given off by the radar equipment generated heat. A remarkable discovery that led to the invention of the microwave.
